Susanne’s Review:

A Return to Gilead in “The Testaments”: It’s both Insightful and Frightening and it takes place 15 years after “The Handmaid’s Tale.

Who holds the power in Gilead?  It’s the Aunts of course!

Why should I be surprised?  After all, Aunt Lydia is terrifying and she has more power than anyone else.

In Gilead, little has changed, There are Commanders, Handmaids, Marthas, and Wives. Sound familiar?

Here, however, we have two new Aunts, Immortelle and Victoria, whose stories wound me up in ways I can’t explain.  We also have Jade, new to Gilead, whose fate is in the hands of everyone else.

Although this novel didn’t perhaps need to be written, I’m glad it was. As most of you know, I adore dystopian novels and have had this book on my tbr for years.  I’m so glad I finally got around to it.  It was both scary and exhilarating and proved that Margaret Atwood has still got it.  As a fan of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, I can’t wait for this book to continue wherever that series leaves off.

    1. Margaret Atwood is amazing! Fingers crossed you get a copy soon! I have access to three libraries, and meant to reserve one a while ago but finally did so and am glad I did. Hope you love it as much as I did! Will be on the lookout for your thoughts!
